I asked on another forum and you told me that the styrofoam really doesn't provide much insulation against the heat and the soil still dries out rather quickly. Do you think it's due to the size of the plant? I'd think that an inch of styrofoam would be better than a plastic bucket!

My tomatoes must be watered MINIMUM every 2 days,they drink a lot of water,my peppers can go several days without issue.Im thinking the plant has more to do with water use than the container does.
However,if really concerned about evaporation loss cover top of soil in bucket with plastic wrap,then cut a slit for plant.That should do more than anything else in keeping evaporation down.
I havent bothered,water use is very efficient just in my open buckets IMO.My daytime temps are mid 80's low 90's in summer.Also I like warm roots.
